Dominate Your Competition With Marketing That Works
How I started and the creation of Odyssey
I guess you can say I don’t like having a boss. That doesn’t sound great but I’ll explain. I grew up in an entrepreneurial household where my mom and dad both ran successful businesses in Fruita Colorado. That sparked my entrepreneurial spirit from a young age, and I knew that one day I wanted to be my own boss which means I could finally weasel my way into winning the coveted employee of the month award.
However to be your own boss, you have to figure out what you want to do and gain some experience. I’ve always gravitated towards technology and that first lead me to digital marketing. I managed the marketing strategies for over 100 small to medium sized businesses ranging from roofers, painters, rappers, and ecommerce stores for eyelash extensions.
I loved working with entrepreneurs of all backgrounds and being able to offer a variety of marketing solutions for any budget. I managed over $50,000 in marketing budgets per month and created email marketing, digital advertising, public relations, content marketing/SEO, and social media strategies.
I found my niche was working with contractor and home service businesses. This is where my initial idea to start a marketing company that tailors to these industries began. However, I knew I needed to learn more about these types of businesses from hands on experience, which led me to working for Sherwin-Williams.
My time with Sherwin-Williams allowed me to learn a ton about the painting and construction industries. It confirmed that this was the demographic that I want to serve as I formed strong relationships with contractors at the store. In 2024 I took the opportunity to go out on my own, so here I am at your service to grow your digital footprint!
Anyways, story time is over I can’t wait to talk to you about marketing your business!
An
Let’s just celebrate the fact that good and useful content is being celebrated now more than ever. This has been going on for a while, but with improving search engine intelligence, the days of BS and keyword stuffing are dead! To me, this makes me closer to my clients because I need their insights on localized content to get them ranking higher.
I wrote a short piece on this but essentially localized marketing allows us to create content that is more specific to our client’s customer base. For example, a roofer in Grand Junction Colorado can leverage this to rank higher in local searches. This might be adding a location as a caption to a completed job photo. I.e. “Completed a roof repair and skylight installation on Redlands Mesa”.
Outside of Grand Junction you would have no idea what Redlands Mesa is (or maybe you would if you’re a golf aficionado). But this communicates a few things: 1.) It shows you’re local and not an outsider, and 2.) It will eventually help you rank well for people searching for services in that area, which if you’re in Grand Junction, Redlands Mesa is where the $$$ is!
But why stop at location? Localized search can include other demographic information like primary language spoken in the home, or other interests.
Ok, the rant is over, but I just get excited about what I do!
Localized Content for the win
AI is transforming how we think about SEO and how content is made
I get really into this stuff!
Search Enginge Optimization has always evolved, but with AI and smarter algorithms things are moving fast! I hate staleness because learning is fun and applying your learning is even better! With Google Gemini you’re starting to see that their AI is answering search queries pretty accurately, meaning that many searchers are not even making it to the search engine results pages or local listings like Google My Business.
However, Gemini hasn’t replaced trying to rank higher than your competitor on the search engine results page, but is competing with that practice and will only develop over time.
Furthermore, AI is accelerating the pace which we can create content. Now I’m never one for using AI to write content because it often lacks authenticity, but it can be used effectively to get you out of a writer’s block or used to gain ideas/insights.

Why choose Odyssey?
With Odyssey you are receiving individualized care and attention that a large agency can’t provide. My reputation is on the line everyday, which means everything I publish goes through meticulous review and testing. I’m in the business of creating a lasting partnership, not being a salesman, which means I do whatever it takes to create the best solutions for your business.
I thought your name was Shane? Where did Odyssey come from?
I picked the name because it sounded cool. Apart from the necessary ‘cool’ element, I stuck with Odyssey because the definition relates to the experience of small business owners.
In short, an odyssey is journey that is defined by triumphs and challenges at each corner. I’m here to help contractors and home service professionals triumph in their digital marketing efforts and navigate the challenges of establishing an identity online and staying ahead of their competition.
Even though I’ve lived in Colorado my whole life, I always liked the ocean so there’s the nautical theme for you.
